Today, one can hardly find any remains of the Limes and its watchtowers. Often there are only indirect marks, such as the straight f ield tracks following the former course of the Limes.
Even the site of the former watchtower next to the road could only be determined on the basis of wall remains, ceramic shards and charcoals.
Nonetheless, the topographic conditions of this site with its good view to Gunzenhausen correspond with the elementary principles of a good location. Free visual contact to neighbouring towers, to the own people and to the enemy territory are part of effective border defense.
About 250 m to the east the Limes crosses the Hambach valley. In two smaller sondages Section Commissioner Dr. Heinrich Eidam detected the Position of the palisade and the wall as several wooden piles of 30 - 35 cm diameter were conserved in the moist environment and offered the possibility of dendrochronological dating.
